Community Support Programs

WV-211

WV 211 is a free, confidential service that helps people find support close to home. By calling 211 or texting your zip code to 898-211, individuals and families can connect with trained specialists who listen, assess needs, and share information about local programs and services available in their community.

WV 211 is available Monday-Friday 9:00am - 12:00am and serves as a starting point for people who may be facing challenges or simply don’t know where to turn.

Support may include connections to:

  • Food, housing, utility assistance, and basic needs
  • Health care, mental health services, education, and family support

WV 211 is a statewide collaborative effort that ensures residents in all 55 counties in West Virginia have access to information about community resources. While the service is available statewide, calls and texts are routed to regional providers who are familiar with local programs and services.

The United Way of Greenbrier Valley operates WV 211 for Greenbrier, Monroe, Pocahontas, and Pendleton counties, providing callers in these communities with knowledgeable, local support.

United for ALICE

Who is Alice?

For a growing number of U.S. households, financial stability remains out of reach, no matter how hard people work. These households are known as ALICE: Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed. They earn above the Federal Poverty Level but still struggle to afford basic necessities.

ALICE households:

  • Span all races, ages, and backgrounds, though households of color are disproportionately affected
  • Include workers whose wages have not kept up with the rising cost of living, often working multiple jobs or balancing caregiving responsibilities
  • Live paycheck to paycheck and face constant tradeoffs, such as paying rent or buying food, covering medical care or child care, paying utility bills or affording gas

ALICE households are part of every community. They are our health care workers, teachers, retail employees, sanitation workers, and others who keep our communities running. ALICE may be someone you know or someone you love, or it may even be you.
Who We Serve

United for ALICE supports individuals and families in Greenbrier, Monroe and Pocahontas Counties who fall into the ALICE category. ALICE stands for Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed — people who are working, often in essential roles, yet still cannot meet their basic household budget. Eligibility is based on local ALICE Survival Budget thresholds for each county and household size.
